"Just slightly behind the curve" is at least one motto claimed by Robert M. Greenberg. The slogan reveals much more about his sense of humor, however, than his actual business and creative practices. Greenberg, chairman and CEO of R/GA Digital Studios, has acquired a near-guru status for his visionary blending of film, video, computer imaging, and the narrow and broadband capabilities of the Internet.

Beginning with the nascent field of computer graphics in 1982, Greenberg's company emerged as a leading visual effects house, creating pioneering animation for films such as Superman, as well as designing computer-assisted technologies for filmmaking. R/GA has also established a strong presence in the interactive field, creating a virtual gallery for the Van Gogh Museum and a personalized service for Ticketmaster. R/GA initiatives range from redesigning an "e-business" site for IBM to designing a digital environment at Long Island's innovative Ross School.

Greenberg has received many accolades for his work, including an Academy Award, a CLIO, and a Cannes Lion. He has also received an honorary doctor of fine arts degree from the University of the Arts/Philadelphia College of Art. R/GA's work was featured in a retrospective by the Walker Center of Art and included in its Design Quarterly.
