The Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler has a strong history of building beautiful and exciting concept vehicles. From 1950 through 1961, Virgil Exner, Chrysler's first vice president of Styling, led the creation of what he called "idea cars". The building of these advanced vehicles helped propel Chrysler to the position of styling leadership it enjoys today.
These one-of-a-kind concept vehicles provide unique opportunities to explore new design ideas. Customer reaction to future products can be more effectively gauged as senior management gets comfortable with new design trends. Concept cars may influence new products, as the Portofino influenced the first LH sedans. The Viper and the PT Cruiser concepts were so well received they became production cars. Concept cars also offer our engineers a platform to explore advanced technologies on functioning vehicles.
