As more accuracy and quality is required, the designer's initial form is transferred to our Conceptual Data Development (CDD) Group. CDD uses our corporate CAD software package, CATIA, to further develop the designer's interior and exterior themes. It is this data that links the designer's concept to all other supporting activities in the corporation (i.e. Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Finance and Purchasing).
The CAD operator receives input from various sources: oral direction or sketches from the designer, engineering sections, or scan data from clay models. Often times, the design evolves between a physical clay model and the CAD data. As more realism is required for full size evaluation, three-dimensional elements such as mirrors, tires and wheels are developed and added to the CAD data. The final concept data is then handed off to Engineering for final production surfacing and release.
