Versatility is one of the keys of the Chrysler Aspen. And the All-New 2009 Chrysler Aspen Hybrid takes that a step further with its two-mode system that integrates a hybrid-electric drive system which reduces fuel consumption by almost 54 percent[1] while running errands in town, but still has the power of a 5.7L HEMI® V8 for towing and highway driving. In the first mode, the engine is shut off, while one of the two electric motors provides acceleration without using a drop of fuel. In the second mode, the electric motors "tag team" with the HEMI® V8, providing the needed power for highway speeds, passing, pulling a trailer, and steep grades. The seamless shifting between these two transmission modes delivers fuel-efficient[1] performance and makes the Chrysler Aspen Hybrid a smart decision for both you and the environment.

    Not only is fuel efficiency[2] an inherent byproduct of the Chrysler Aspen Hybrid two-mode system, it's also an integral part of the makeup of the HEMI® V8 engine itself. A Multi-Displacement System (MDS) allows the Chrysler Aspen Hybrid to do something traditional hybrids cannot — increase efficiency after switching to automatic transmission mode. During cruising and acceleration, MDS deactivates half of the cylinders making the refined V8 a fuel-efficient 4-cylinder. The payoff is an increased overall fuel economy[2] of up to 40 percent.
